I´ve been reading about this Jeremy Benthan, mainly because I´m in the "Locke´s not really dead" camp. And I came across a very interesting little tidbit in Wikipedia about Bentham. The guy asked people to preserve his body and it is STILL in this display at the University College in London with a WAX head. It seems kinda sick to me, but the guy still participates in meetings and stuff...they roll the body out for him to vote or something ewwww.Sooooooo....what if our beloved baldie has pulled the same stunt? Is it too far-fetched to say he arranged to have this wax dummy put in the coffin? Some people on the web are asking themselves about his scar, that it´s not visible......now, the next question is WHY would he go to such lengths??? I´m gonna digest that a bit and get back to you......

Hey, Clementine! I read the same article to prepare for the upcoming John Locke cast this week. I'm not sure our Locke is so smart to pull off something like that. I love Locke's character, but I find myself in the he's dead camp. What I see happening is something ala Christian Shephard where he is dead, they get him back to the island, and it restores him to "life" like Christian where he can zip around and has power. I see it going to be a face off of Locke vs. Christian for control of the island. My theory is that Jacob is captured by Christian and help prisoner, thus the help me to John. When Christian says he is speaking for Jacob, I believe he is speaking for Christian, not Jacob. The help me is to have him be free. If we go by the wax voting head, then Jacob says one thing, Christian says another, and Locke would be the tie breaker and would vote Jacob's way. That's what I'm working off of anyway and thought it would be cool to see. My feeling is that Locke is a puppet, always wanting to belong.

You´re right, Chris......"the whole faking my own death and funeral" sounds more like something Ben might do, rather than Locke. In fact, I´ve thought......the ONLY way Locke could pull that off would be with Ben´s help....we know HE certainly has the financial resources to pay off the funeral parlor and commission a wax body from Madame Tussaud´s........I think that could be the only way...and yes! John´s a puppet, so maybe this is something Ben came up with to get everybody back to the island, as a way to prove how messed up everything got because they left. Jack certainly looks like he´s feeling guilty that John´s dead now. There has to be a reason they chose that alias and the wax head is a big coincidence..........does his scar show up? Lots of people are swearing they can´t see it.......
Still, I DO agree with you on the Jacob/Christian point. I think Christian did NOT speak for Jacob and is in fact holding him hostage or something. I believe Jacob DID cry out for help. And there´s something to your theory that John will be revived like Christian.........could be ........could be....it´s definitely a possibility.

Clem,
It's great to hear from you again. I really like the idea of John Locke faking his death. After all he would be taking a page out of his dad's playbook. Though he probably would need help from Ben pulling it off. Isn't it odd that Ben was the only one, other than Jack, to show up at the funeral parlor? Hmmmmm.... ;D

Hi Clay! And yessssss...Ben does show up at the funeral parlor, looking very calm, cool, and collected.......and guys I heard something that caught my attention and I looked it up. Bentham is also considered a notable "consequentialist", and oh what a surprise.....one of the maxims of consequentialism is that "the ends justify the means".......so.....I guess pretending to be dead is a pretty crappy thing to do to people....I mean....Jack is all broken up about it , and just think what their reaction will be when they discover he´s not really dead! But, hey people, sometimes the ends justify the means, and if we can get all these people back on the island....... How, oh how, will I ever endure waiting till Jan/Feb. to find out??? Got no choice.... Clem

This might sound crazy, but am I the only one who thought Locke's head looked strage in the coffin? It looked like his collar was pulled up too far on his neck. It struck me that the mortician might have had to cover some kind of injury to his neck.

Susanna, it struck me the same the several times I've watched it how it looks like he's raising his shoulders so there is no neck. This could be because John supposedly hung himself I believe, so they are covering up the mark there.
"The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue.
Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim's loft.
Concerned for tenants' safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room.
According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham (sic) is survived by one teenaged son.
Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening."
This was posted over at the Fuselage as a version from someone that they suspect works on the show.
